When my daughter turned 4 she was diagnosed with CASK Related Disorder, a rare genetic disorder affecting approximately 200 children in the world. As she grew older it became clear to us that she was likely going to remain non-verbal and require a significant amount of care and support for the rest of her life. As she grew we also began to face additional challenges, one of which being an issue of clothing. It often bothered me that when she would play at the playground her shirt would often lift to reveal her diaper, I felt that even though she is incontinent and it is necessary for her, she deserves to have more dignity as no parent wants their child to go around with their underwear showing. Additionally the diaper itself eventually became an issue for us leading to the creation of my rompers as a way to make diaper changes easier and to keep them from interfering in our day to day life. It is my goal to help other parents, caregivers, and those with special needs with my sewing.
